This is the phase of a research process that is most likely to be poorly planned and executed. It follows on from what may have been a long and very busy period of work. Once the active phase of collaboration is over, there may well be a rush to produce outcomes for publication or presentation. One’s mind is liable to be focused on a whole range of other priorities. Attending to the details of the closing process, and making sure all the loose ends are tied will probably be a considerable challenge, but I believe, for a variety of reasons, that it is extremely important to conclude the period of collaboration in a way which does justice to what has been done already, and maximises the possibilities for mutual learning.
